V is for Valentine's Day!

Week of February 6th-10th

February is such a fun month for one reason... VALENTINE'S DAY!! If you're a kid this means valentines including lots of candy! However, if you're a toddler this can mean anything from a valentine card to fruit, goldfish or those wonderful pinterest ideas we all love! For this specific week we celebrated Valentine's Day by decorating treat bags with markers and Valentine stickers! At the end of the week, we got to pass out our Valentines! :) During the week, we used a heart shaped cookie cutter to make hearts out of play dough! The kids LOVE playing with play dough! We also worked a lot on using a glue stick! We glued different color tissue paper onto a heart that said "I love you to pieces." I also took a white crayon and made hearts on a white piece of paper and the kids used water colors to paint over the hearts so they would appear! For our sensory activities, I put pink, red, white and gold paper shreds in the sensory bin so the kids could go crazy getting everything messy!

For circle time, we continued to do our usual welcome songs, weather song, ABC song, and even learned a new song called "Skidamarink." This is a cute and fun song about love! We also used our ipad to listen to other "Love" songs! We read our daily Bible devotions and learned about Jesus' love for everyone! During our large motor time, we played in the gym and played a lot of basketball! We also even were able to sneak outside on the playground on the pretty days! Take a look at our LOVEly week and stay tuned to what's in store next!

D is for Dentist!

Last week marked the start of February! Any hints to what our theme was last week?! I'll give you a hint! February is National Children's Dental Health Month! Therefore, we talked about ways to keep our teeth healthy and white! Starting healthy habits early are likely to last longer throughout their life! So why not practice brushing our teeth and even introducing flossing?! Turns out.... the kids LOVED it! They couldn't get enough!

To enhance language development, we read the book "Teeth are Not for Biting" and discussed healthy ways to use our teeth! We practiced saying "teeth" and pointing to where our teeth are! We did several fine motor activities, including flossing play dough out of legos painting with floss, brushing our yellow teeth with white paint and brushing away our ABC's! Those are just a few of the fun activities we did! As far as gross motor development, we played in the gym with cars, balls, bikes and cones! We were even able to go outside on the playground one day! Fresh air is a must for these little ones! Take a look at our fun-filled week!
